Maria is one of those people I've never met face to face, but came to know through the extended web of my livejournal connections. We've shared a lot of the hardest moments of our lives, especially in regards to divorce and starting over and anxiety. I care about Maria, and I care about her education and her chances to have the life she wants and deserves and needs. There's $3800 dollars standing between Maria and the end of university. I have been in this exact same position before, working and terrified and desperately trying to make money any way I could to finish school.

So please, go forth, bid, donate, spread the word. Help Maria.

its monday again

It is only actually 94 degrees according to the newspaper. Technically. But the humidity and such factors have pushed the heat index to 111 degrees. The thermometer on my back porch is showing over a hundred. Ugh. So no yard work this week for sure. I wish it would rain and break.

My copy of The Ammonite Violin & Others by Kiernan arrived today. It is a book of magnificent beauty. (I bought one of the limited copies.) Not only is it beautiful to hold, it is excellent reading full of dreams and terrors and exquisite words. Seriously, go buy it.

We purchased tickets to Dragon*con yesterday. It was a sort of spur of the moment thing. But it should be fun, as there will be robots and rm! I'm so excited about that. There will also hopefully be some visiting with alainn_sorcha. I just realized that I will get to see my two friends with the sharpest tongues on earth - I think I'm going to expire of glee.

Currently I am experimenting. I am watching an episode of Showtime's The Tudors every day and during that time I will exercise on our weird hybrid bike/rowing machine. It should take me through most of the month, providing me with entertainment/eye candy with a story I already know so I'm not worried about missing dialogue while I huff and puff.

A mockingbird has taken up residence on our porch or in the tree. It is quite loud. I think there's a nest up in the crepe myrtle. The cats spend hours sitting at the back door, staring intently.

Ten minutes after complaining the outdoors felt like a bathroom after a hot shower, thunder rumbles and lightning flashes. No rain yet, but I'm hoping.

The mail also brought me a bottle of Pink Moon 2005, Kiernan's new book, my Wyrding studios pendant, three new shirts and some netflix. Yay.

Edit: The temperature dropped twenty (!!!) degrees and it is raining nicely. Oh happy day.

unsolicited advice, knowing your words

Dear reviewers, if you ever want anyone to take you seriously you need to get your funny words and sayings down correctly. Otherwise, people are just going to point and laugh. Here's a couple common mistakes you should avoid:

It's not "hammy down" it is hand me down. Good people might mistake your used car for a breakfast sandwich and that would just lead to unhappiness for everyone!

It's not "walla!" but "voila." (I'll even forgive you for leaving out the accent mark.)

When talking about scents, you want to say "reeked" instead of "wreaked" unless you opened that bottle of perfume and a Spartan sprang out to smash your chairs and rip up your carpets and skewered your lap dog on a spear.
