cooking adventures for Monday
Mar. 28th, 2011 09:23 pmWatched the newest episode of Pioneer One tonight after dinner. Not only do they have the best opening credits sequence around, they have a fascinating story. I love the future, where it is possible for people to make stuff like this. I'm so excited by the story.
I experimented tonight with this idea of making complete meals in a dutch oven. Everything is layered and cooked for about an hour. I was dubious, but the first experiment was a success. I made a fantastic paste of peanut butter, pomegranate molasses and fish sauce which went over the chicken, broccoli and potatoes. It came out pretty tasty and true to the name only one pot required. I'm looking forward to experimenting with more of the recipes. There's a curry or two I want to try. Since my stove top curries have been disasters, I have hope this might be the trick.
Since today was also apparently National Black Forest Cake Day, I made dessert too. But I felt too shiftless to go to the trouble of actually making a black forest cake I made this chocolate truffle bar and topped it with whipped cream full of cherries and rum. So poor Mike cleaned the kitchen yesterday and today I made it into a disaster all over again. At least he ate well. It was a very domestic day.
I keep getting outbid on things for the Help Japan. Which is great for Japan but not for me. Grr argh, stupid problem to have. I did donate through some other channels recently.
All my more pithy thoughts will have to wait for another entry. My brain is too occupied with Mars and Dragon Age.
