Dec. 6th, 2011 03:42 pmI was going to make chilli. But then I thought about how much I hate deboning meat and how terrible my knife skills are anyway. So I decided to roast the hog shoulder first! A slow, many hour roast. I brined my hog with vinegar and sugar and some spices before popping it in the oven. Now we can have some tasty pork sandwiches tonight and it will be so much easier to cut the meat off the bone. Leftovers will get recycled into massively meaty local chilli with beef, hog and bison. Yay.
I acquired some jars for my first canning project. As soon as my giant pot shows up, I think I'm going to make pickled pears! They are like sweet tart pears, kind of tangy and spicy.
It's quite cold. I wish it was like this more often. I wish I had a reason to buy actual winter clothes like coats and sweaters and hats. I had a peppermint mocha to celebrate the weather. The guys at Dave's fixed up my car, so now my windshield wipers actually spray cleaner again. I took them some butter cookies.
