Icon of Coil
Sep. 25th, 2012 09:28 amI woke up to a facebook status saying the band's van broke down in El Paso. My day had a certain nervous tension as I waited for news that they would make it here in time for the show. IoC hasn't toured in ages and hasn't ever played here that I know of, so it felt sort of like a once in a lifetime chance when I bought the ticket. But they made it!
SITD opened, and I'll confess I've not listened to a lot of them. But I really enjoyed what they played and they were super engaged with the crowd. So much fun.
Then Icon of Coil came on and blistered us with the ferocity of their performance. Andy LePlegua stalks that stage like a mad man, grinning. (It's ridiculous how attractive that performance is, to be honest.) They played Perfect Sex, and my favorite Dead Enough for Life. It was something, to hear the entire crowd screaming the chorus back at them. And Shelter, oh that was especially good. I screamed and danced and there was nothing else but that sound.
Made friends with my favorite dancing fellow - I love to watch him move on the floor. He always wears these knee high boots and dances with reckless joy. He came up to me last night and said I clearly had good musical taste and we should be friends. What more can you ask for really?
