Depeche Mode
Sep. 10th, 2013 09:31 amI think when Dave Gahan gets older, he's going to be like Leonard Cohen. Forever energetic and running about the stage with a manic twinkle in his eye, dancing and singing out to the sky. Because really, he was sex and rock and roll and everything wonderful about live music last Friday night. The Depeche Mode show was excellent and the opening act Bat For Lashes was also fabulous. I see so many shows in very small venues that I don't often get the chance to see a giant, full stadium production. It was fun.
The whole trip was good. I slept in a very comfortable hotel bed. There was a subway stop right outside. We adventured all over Brooklyn, visited the hipster capitol of Williamsburg, wandered the lower East Side, saw Governor's Island and crazy carousels. We ate so much good food, from the Russian restaurant to gelato to fried clams. I also acquired delicious macarons and have developed a new obsession. It was nice. I love visiting NYC. I don't think I have the mental stamina to live there because I forget every time how incredibly loud it is in the city and that always freaks me out a bit. Also I walked until I had blisters, because I am dumb and decided it was more important to wear my boots than comfortable tennis shoes. It was especially nice to spend time hanging out with Racheline and Patty, because they are awesome. Plus we traumatized a waiter at Bare Burger with an incredibly horrifying random bit of conversation - I tried to make up for it with the tip.
In the airport going home, this guy cleaning the windows could whistle like no one I've ever heard. He sounded like an honest to god flute. Then he broke into the Godfather theme and started singing it to this lady carrying a giant pink tennis ball. Seriously. Magic.
I'm really glad we had this trip planned before everything else happened. I needed it.
