DAY FIFTEEN: a letter to someone you wish you could meet

I've experienced enough moments over the past decade where a person I admired from afar said or did something problematic or upsetting that I'm so hesitant to even desire meeting people.

A few years ago, I wrote a letter to Josef Skvorecky about how his books changed my life and how I fell in love with them in Prague. He wrote me a short, sweet reply thanking me for the letter. I wish I could have met him before he died, had a beer and talked about Danny and how he managed to write with such grace and humor in the face of such darkness.

I have had largely positive experiences meeting my internet friends though. That's not really let me down. (Except that time I went to meet a fellow moderator out in California and he turned out to be a barely 18 year old crazy kid living with his parents. That was strange.)

Dear Internet Friend,

I wish we could hang out. Get snacks. Stay up late. Talk about everything. Eat pancakes. You know. All those things.
