Yes I just came home and yes I've been running all day in these high heeled boots. Yes I should be going to bed, but I have so many notes to make.

My supervisor gave me a little gift, colorful candles with a glass holder. So fragrant I could smell it through the wrapping paper. During work, a SWAT team along with snipers and ambulances camped out behind the store. I have no clue as to what was going on but the road was blocked off.

Melynda and I watched Harry Potter again tonight. The buttons on the pants please me immensely, as do those odd shoes. Kind of like my old oxford wingtips. Madame Hooch has these wonderful boots on, and I do like her. We laughed and sighed longingly. We went to Metro afterwards, and I managed to race Melynda down there. My car shouldn't be forced to endure that kind of speed, but it was worth the look of shock on her face when I pulled abreast of her on Mopac. Easily a triple digit speeding ticket.

There was much card playing, coffee drinking and smoking. Such a good mood. Matt appeared for a little while, before he went home to watch The Hunger. Micah took his place in the epic rounds of Shanghai Rummy, and Melynda definitely had her game back tonight. She pulled some amazing hands, and I think I set a record losing score on the last round.

She also used an incredibly awful middle school bit of slang I haven't heard in years, and I almost fell out of my chair. That's what happens when television has a 90210 marathon in the middle of the day.

Micah and I wound up staying after she left, with a sudden burst of alertness. We attempted to play Spice & Malice, but the decks rebeled in a creepy way. When we flipped cards to determine who had the first move, we both drew aces. With much confusion and laughter we shoved them back into the middles of the decks. Then we both flipped twos. Terrified we tried to sort the decks back out and stuff them into the boxes. Definitely a sign we should go home and to bed.

Spent a lot of time watching a dark haired boy write and smoke. His friend stared at me and I talked to him a little from afar. Silly girl, to even think about it.

Now I should sleep. More work later today, and then I have two days off in which to play.

rather than letting ourselves get caught up in cutting and recutting (since cutting the same card happens often enough, especially when deciding who's gonna deal) we use the ranking of the suits for settling a tie.

the ranking common to almost all games is:

spades
hearts
diamonds
clubs

the middle two are interchangable and comes down to one of the ultimate questions (what's more important to you, love or money) but spades are pretty universally regarded as the highest trump and clubs as the lowest. (which is why 2 of clubs leads in spades)

so when we cut for deal, ace of clubs gets it automatically. my most common draw is the ace of diamonds, leaving only one card in the deck that can beat it (the people i play with have taken to calling the ace of diamonds "my card" when it comes up).

I suppose we could have done that, but in the game suits have no relevance. (Of course, I didn't remember that either since I haven't played spades or hearts in ages.) Neither of us could recall if there was a rule for that sort of thing in Spite & Malice, or if it had ever happened to any of us before.

And 4am, it's a hell of a lot more amusing to imagine that my roommate has cursed the cards so we can't win. Plus it happened twice! :P
