out of time and place

Last night on the way home, riding in Melynda's car down Burnet road near St Louis church, I saw something that should have been on the street in Moscow centuries ago. An old woman, with a sign, and dolls for sale. We waited fifteen seconds at the light, and I stared at her coat, the scarf on her head, the fingers curled tightly. She had dolls at her feet, the kind almost a foot tall and wearing elaborate dresses. I wonder what she was doing out there, of all the places.

They looked like nice dolls. (Granted it was only by streetlight, but still.) It was just so Old World-ly.

I find it interesting when I find things that seem out of place. Then I so desire to learn history and reason behind that particular event or vision. As if the oddity was a sign of learning.

I haven't seen anything odd lately, so I guess the weirdness was packaged into that moment. Because, you see, I live in the twilight zone. I'm used to it though.
