The world is truly going to hell. I'm glad I wasn't home last night to see the horror that was 'Celebrity Boxing.'

Otesanek is playing this weekend at Dobie. I must see if Gene wants to go Saturday night, or on Sunday. I also want to go one last time to the Arbor before it closes. I might cry. That theater is central to my love of movies, and so many experiences. Tracy's sister Megan worked there, and would let us in for free. We saw Jack the Bear and JFK there. I saw Star Wars on the big screen at the Arbor, and we waited in line beside Harry Knowles and a guy dressed in a fantastic Boba Fett costume. I walked in on people having sex on the bathroom counter upstairs. The ceiling has puffy clouds and stars. Michael and I saw The Maltese Falcon there, right before we broke up. I went to a movie alone for the first time, to see Fargo at the Arbor. Damn it, I can't believe they're taking it away.

The first film I ever saw there was Beetlejuice. Back when The Arboretum was brand spanking new back in the mid-80s my buddy and and I would get dropped off down there to watch movies, gorge ourselves on ice cream and goof off down in the park. Its hard to imagine that the Arbor is closing, since for the longest time is was the best theatre in Austin (technically speaking) and even after became a marvel of an upscale arthouse.

Chalk up another point for corporate monoculture.

It is also perhaps the most comfortable theater in town. I'll miss those red seats.

Wow. You saw Beetlejuice there? How cool. That was one of my favorite movies when I was younger.
