Last night's Ukrainian film was A Friend of the Deceased. It's nice to still know enough Russian to spot where the subtitles are wrong. A strange movie. Anatoli has all these women offering him sex and money, yet he refuses. There are some loose ends, such as the firebombing of Dima's store, but on the whole it's good. I remain unconvinced that ducks had anything to do with it.

Bought a little black velvet dress at Urban Outfitters. Many books at the Half Price on Guadalupe. Gene and I went a little mad with the discount.

Four Soviet Masterpieces- short story collection with Vladimir Voinovich and Yuri Kazakov
Hope Dies Last: The Autobiography of the Leader of the Prague Spring by Alexander Dubcek.
Omon Ra by Victor Pelevin
The Russian Century by Brian Moynahan
Vermillion Sands by JG Ballard
What Maisie Knew & The Spoils of Poynton by Henry James
Washington Square by Henry James
Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol, in the new Pevear & Voloknonsky translation

Talked a long time with Miss Natalie, who brought me on of my favorite snack foods of all time, Marshmallow Peeps. She always has an interesting point of view. A pity Metro was so crowded. I'll be glad when the semester is over and I can have my coffee shop back.

Making pies yet again. Tired. Must be the medication I suppose. Very odd dreams, about drinking and insanity.

Excellent books, all of them. I would highly recommend to you Pelevin's The Life of Insects. Gogol is one of my favorites as well.

Twas indeed a very good day.

HAH! That made the rounds once at PcO once, didn't it? Oh remember the days before instant messenger was allowed? With that odd network message beep that drove Scott insane?

I was just telling Gene about that the other day. I'll have to send it to him. :P

Heh, I told him not to eat the pies this week, and that I'd cook a real meal for us this weekend. (I can see him furrowing his brow and staring down his nose at me behind my back)
