They had to put Willow down this morning. Her liver stopped working last night I guess, for her to be so sick this morning. I was the only one not there. I never seem to be there to say goodbye, for anyone. Not once.

My dad sounds so heartsick. She was the first dog he loved after we lost Shadow, oh so many years ago. I have neither the time or inclination to write down my family's history of dogs. Suffice to say, they have always been there and loved.

The angel closes her eyes.

Thank you, for all the words, and the time you have bestowed upon me. Can we perhaps find a world where dogs don't die, and the tormented find rest? Something outside the typical ideal of heaven, perhaps? Surely, between the two of us, we can find something.

You know this song too? God, you have no idea how that warms my heart.

You're welcome, but why shouldn't I? or we? or whatever? Ya know.

Will add to to do list.

It was a huge hit when I was in college, and is still a great tune. I think I should actually be more suprised thatn you know it.

I listened to that album over and over again on my headphones my first year of high school. One of those that wound up so fraught with meaning and memory.

One of the things I like most about Melynda and Gene is that we turn up the music and sing along in the car.

I know Miss Natalie. You know these things well, I imagine, from your job at the vet. It had to be done. That however, does not make it hurt any less.

Thank you Cate. If I know what it is I need, I'll call you. Right now Gene and I are drinking up a storm and listening to the most beautiful music. I wanted to go with my father today, and shoot up beer bottles at his deer lease, but alas I ust work tomorrow.

Oh thank you. It's good to have someone to hold on to, even as intangible as this is. Thanks.
