Played lots of cards tonight, and won every blasted game. Which should make me feel good, but it doesn't. I think my friends are beginning to hate me.

My joints ache, and I can feel the arthritis coming on. I'm getting old and dying.

Indeed. Where's the future I was so heartily promised in all that sci-fi I read while growing up? Eh? Where's my hover car, my instant teleportation and virtual reality nonsense?
