I spent two hours typing up a piece, only to have my computer somehow eat it. Damn it all, and I saved a billion times.

Nope. Because it was all spur of the moment and heart felt. I saved a bazillion times, cause I'm paranoid like that. But somehow, the machine made it vanish into the abyss.

(It does not help to have snarky commentary about how a nice pen and paper set would be so much better. Eat a ginger creme and shut up man!)

Maybe you saved it somewhere other than you thought you did? Do a search for the filename and see if it magically appears.

I've searched the machine and it's vanished. It's the most bizarre thing that's ever happened. Argh....

We had some lightning earlier and it inexplicably caused a program to stop working on my dad's computer which is the same thing that happened to the laptop a few months ago in similar conditions, and it's just impossible for me to fathom why that is. :)
