Prší, jen se leje. Sakra.

Luckily for me, despite my lack of a raincoat or even a proper jacket, I have my cowboy hat. So I am stalking the streets of Brno in my black hat, earning curious stares from older women and the excited envy of the red haired kid working the counter at Bonton. Mwuhaha. Well, I have to have something to be amused by, since it is about 50F outside and steadily raining away.

I spent my morning writing an essay in Czech, but forgot to put it in my pocket before I left the Družba. Sakra. However, I am acquiring a passable vocabulary of Czech obscenities, thanks to a friendly girl named Jitka.

Standing on my balcony this morning, smoking a cigarette and listening to Russian pop, I gazed out over the bleak scene. It must be stark here in the winter. The chestnut trees are turning reddish brown, and their rustle blends in with the rain.

Včera večer, dívala jsem se na francouský film "Trois coleurs: Rouge," od polského režisera Krzysztof Kieslowski. Kino je v staré sladíšti, a má divany a kresla. Mužeš pít pivo a se dívaš na filmy. Je to dobrý napad.

I heard Prague was flooding, does any of that unpleasantness threaten your corner of Brno? The cowboy hat is appropriate, it gives Europeans something to fear.

Yeah Prague is flooding, and it is unbelievable to see. The Vltava is raging, and parts of the city are without power. A state of emergency has been declared.

So far, Brno remains wet but unflooded. Cross your fingers...
