Melynda had remarked that the carpet in from the of the washer & dryer was soaked. I shook my head, thinking maybe it had just spilled from the hose the last time we ran laundry. Only today did I realize the entire wall behind the washer and dryer was wet. This explains why the lights shorted out in Melynda's bathroom the other day.
The quite friendly maintainence men came out within ten minutes of the phone call, and quickly determined that the empty apartment upstairs was to blame. The woman living above moved out last week, and it seems the connections were not properly shut off. Water leaked all over the bathroom and hallway above, seeping down into our home. So they shut down the water, drilled some holes in the extremely soggy wall, and sprayed things to keep it from mouldering up. I'm waiting for the electrician to come back and fix the lights in the bathroom so Melynda can actually see to shower.
This does not explain why Gene's pants never dried out over the weekend, hanging up in another part of the house. But close enough. I think I will run the fans and see how dry we can get. Maybe I'll go back to cleaning.
