Lord of The Rings, extended version

We just finished watching the new cut, with slightly different editing and several extra scenes.

I have not the words to describe how wonderful this movie is, how it moves me so in the deep places of my soul. This version does it all over again, like the first time I saw it when I felt like the world was opening up beneath my feet and even the sky was different that afternoon. It makes me want to believe in living.

You have to see this.

It's magnificent, isn't it? I love what it does for Sean Bean's character in particular -- gives Boromir more soul.

Oh, indeed. Aragorn and Boromir especially. The scene where Aragorn is singing at night, and the moment when Boromir reaches out for the Ring at the council are striking.

This movie amazes me, because what they have created and put onto the screen is so much like the world I envisioned as a child, when I first read these books late into the night by lamp and then flashlights under the covers.

Oh it is! They've changed the prologue slightly, and the opening sequence with the Hobbits. There are several new scenes, and extra bits that go a long way to fleshing out some of the characters more on-screen. It's a dream.

Do go rent a copy. The documentaries are inspiring as well. I knew it took a lot of work to make these films, but I had no idea of the absolutely massive scale of the projects. My respect for the cast and crew of LotR has gone through the sky.
