every night I fall
Jan. 15th, 2003 09:07 amWe're watching The Crow on the perfect morning for it. The fog's still out. When we drove home in the early hours, it was so thick you couldn't see more than two car lengths ahead. Driving on the flyover was amazing, because there was nothing around us except the stray roadside light thrust high into the sky. Like the end of the world, we said, driving and driving into nothing.
And there's something really right about this now, because I haven't watched this movie all the way through since 1997, or even looked at the graphic novel. Because you know, it was the last thing I read before I started swallowing pills on that morning, the last thing I touched before I started wondering if I should even bother with a suicide note. But it doesn't hurt to talk about it, it doesn't bother me the way it once did.
Six years makes a lot of difference.
I slept curled up on the couch in Micah's arms. (Which of course reminded me of Lucius and Bill, because I was so warm) We've got donughts, and we're just going to be lazy beyond belief today.
His arrival was so totally unexpected. I really didn't think we would see him til November and all of the sudden he's on my doorstep with our favorite line. Micah, my tattoo buddy. Last year around this time, we were going together to the place on Burnet. He spent the whole night surprising people. Terra stared with a poleaxed expression, Melynda nearly dropped an entire glass of hot coffee on Anthony and came close to knocking some chairs over, Elisa shrieked and threw herself into his arms... it was fantastic. (Yes, I think I'll have an Orlando Bloom moment) Bloody fantastic, so awesome. Wow! Hah.

I used him as inspiration for my entry in the the annual Statesman contest for high school kids to win scholarships. The theme that year was role models, so I wrote this hysterical poem thanking Iggy Pop for keeping me off the drugs. ;) Won a scholarship check with it.
