Work made me cranky, but the feeling is slowly leeching away. Watching Titus, which ranks as one of theo most intense and bizarrely beautiful pieces of Shakespeare ever done. I'm just amazed and I cna't believe I didn't go see this in the theater.

We're getting up early to have a birthday breakfast for Melynda before she trundles off to Houston for the weekend. I wish I was going, just to get away. But I'll stay here, go see the Czech class play and there's a party at Craig's house afterwards so hopefully all will be well.

What is even more disturbing is the knowledge that Jonathan Rhys-Meyers will be playing the part of Schmendrick the Magician in the new version of The Last Unicorn. I'm really curious about this film. Supposedly they should begin shooting right around now, and the timetable calls for a fall 2004 release. Mia Farrow will be playing Molly Grue, and Christopher Lee will be King Haggard. I hesitate to hope that it will be good. The original animated film has always held a dear place in my heart, and I would cry and sing along at the end every time.

If there was anything I wanted to believe in more than life itself, it was the existence of Tolkien's elves and the existence of unicorns. And that may seem so stereotypical and silly, but it was who I was. I had a purple bedspread with unicorns all over it for years and years.

I really should sleep. But Rhys-Meyers and his pigtails are keeping me awake.

Mmmmmmmmm Titus.

I used to have that in the background at work.

I still want the dining room set from the feast scene. I think you can get the flatware and place settings at that huge Chineese import shop on Canal st.

I love the dining room. I want an enormous table like that one day.

I've got a tattoo appointment at 2pm, so you want to do lunch/something after?

Wow. Just wow. The last unicorn, live action?
I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Yeah! It's weird. I've been hearing about this project for years. I think they might be using some of the Sideshow Weta tech to do the work on the unicorn, which would be really neat if it all comes together. And I do like that they are using people who worked on the original. So it will either be really good or really really really bad.

What an interesting choice. Wow, that boy does have some cheek bones, doesn't he? And now I want to go reread and picture...

I'm alternately excited by the thought of a live-action The Last Unicorn and anxious that it might turn out to be terrible. But generally, my main problem will be convincing my husband to go see it with me.

He truly is one of the strangest looking people ever. I wish my cheekbones were like that though.

My feelings exactly. I'll probably go see it because I am unable to resist the lure, and I should like to see this story on a big theater screen.

My grandpa took me to see the animated version. He took me to movies all the time when I was a kid, but The Last Unicorn was one of the few I begged for. It was so wonderful, the Bull so frightning, and I completely fell in love with Schmendrick. Gods, I can't believe it's been twenty years since I saw that movie the first time.
