it's 80 degrees outside
Aug. 10th, 2003 01:41 amWhat a crazy day.
We went out to look at the house, and after some careful deliberation, Alan and I have decided on having our wedding there. We even have the day we want, the second weekend in December, and we'll have it overnight so we can stay in the lovely cottage. I'm writing a hefty check tomorrow on our way out of town for deposit and half the fees. It's actually extremely affordable, and it's so beautiful. The pictures on the website don't do it justice, but you can see the House on the Hill.
Careful consideration of my friends is making me think I don't want them drinking there, because the potential for someone to do something completely awful is high. I just have that feeling. Add to that, I really want them all to leave, so the two of us can have time alone and not worry about our friends banging on the door or hassling us. It's also a fair drive from most of their homes, and I do want them all safely back. We'll see I suppose.
Kevin's in town, and it's a happy thing to see him again. There are things about him that I can always count on, and it is good to have a friend who can remind you just how far you've come. We're playing pool tennis next week. Lots of card playing tonight, and friends, and random conversation.
It's still a mind boggling thing.
My bed is moved in, and most of my clothes are all now here, and it's actually turning into our home.

Date: 2003-08-10 05:36 am (UTC)about the alcohol-- maybe it was just our crowd , but i was worried that at least SOMEONE would get pretty trashed, and pretty much, nobody did. i have to say pretty much because my cousin who is a big macho guy, is also a two-drink wonder and was "assisting" the dj all night- he actually LIFTED dan to the dance floor at one point AND got my veryvery religious, "dancing is a sin" gramma on the dance floor! my mother told me about the bar bill because she was shocked by how low it was. it *was* low! i guess you just have to assess your crowd and decide. it ultimately comes down to what type of wedding YOU want. if you don't want people there very late- well, that's up to YOU! :) another way to prevent people *expecting* alcohol is to have the wedding at a non-traditional time, like the morning, and then have a lovely afternoon reception. tea anyone? (require them to where hats!)
have you found your dress yet?

Date: 2003-08-10 09:51 am (UTC)It's going to be an afternoon wedding, just because of the time we check in at the place and such, so I'm hoping I can get away with coffee, fruity beverages and such with cake and cheese. I think it is just knowing that some of my friends have some drinking problems, and I so don't want to deal with that. Plus, I don't want drunk people out of Bee Caves road.
No dress yet, but I'm going next weekend to look!
