Really for all the time we spent watching movies and hiding in the house, we did get some things done. We registered today at Dillards for things like glassware, dishes galore, my KitchenAid mixer, a waffle iron, fabulous bedspreads, towels, a clock and some other random things. Need to add a wine rack. We can muck about with our registry online which is one of the best parts of it and why we eventually choose the store. It has the added advantage of being nationally available for those folks who don't leave their hometowns.

The registry person gave me all sorts of booklets and brochures, and even a thing for free makeovers. How bizarre.

Watched Near Dark this evening, and while it was interesting in spots I don't understand why it's considered so iconic. Much less how it inspired White Wolf's Vampire if I've heard correctly. Bill Paxton was a hoot however. Perhaps years of living amongst redneck boys has innured me to their charms on the big screen. I don't like my vampires to be whiny bastards either. I want blood drinking super fast death dealers in a vampire movie. Though I'll settle for Kate Beckinsale in her shiny tight pants in a pinch, just cause she's cute.

Television is so weird. I've only ever seen one entire episode of ER and it happens to be on right now. I just finished watching a first season episode of X-Files. Legal television dramas are by far the strangest, and they make me glad I don't work in that field.

There are two mice that creep into our kitchen, small and brown. We bought some no kill traps, but they haven't worked so far and we are going to have to use old fashioned rat traps. I feel a bit bad about it, but at the same time I don't want mice living in our kitchen. Poor dumb mice. I wish they would just crawl in the little boxes so I could carry them off to the woods.

I've been on the internet so long that I've grown intolerant of a lot of behaviours. The same blind, black & white strident voices that existed in my BBS days are still here, with spiffier pages and pictures. I loathe the attention seeking, the drama creation, the inability to acknowledge that so very few things have right answers. Maybe I'm too old. Maybe too cranky. But some days, I want to ship all these people into the sun.

getting rid of mice

If you put coca cola in tiny bowls they will drink it and die. Mice cannot pass gas but they love coke. I know you don't want to kill them, but at least it will make for neater corpses and you won't run the risk of pinching your fingers in traps.

Oi that sounds like an unpleasant way to go!

I am not sure how it inspired White Wolf's vampire, except that I think it tries to show a form of realistic modern vampire that gets away a little from the 'walking anachronism' mode of a lot of Dracula-type vampires in the movies if that makes any sense. I have always been a big fan of the movie because of the above reasons, although I have always found the cure-for-vampirism ending to be a big disapppointment.

Have you seen Cronos, the Mexican vampire movie by Guillermo del Toro? You might enjoy it more.

Someone recently told me that it was a big inspiration for some of the clans and the hierarchy of the Masquerade, but I fail to see how. I suppose the inspiration is as you said, more modern day vampires but in that case I would say The Lost Boys has more symmetry with White Wolf's stuff.

Perhaps I just like my vampires a little more supernatural. I'll have to check out Cronos.

The vampires in Cronos aren't really super-fast death dealers but they are definitely disquieting and strange and supernatural, though maybe "alchemical" is a better word than supernatural since it is the device of an ancient alchemist that bestows vampirism.

My biggest complaint is the terrible movie poster they use on the cover of most of the versions I have seen, usually depicting some blond chick who does not appear in the movie at all.

Hey, any movie with Lance Henriksen and Jenette Goldstein as man and wife can't be all bad ;)

Haha, this is true! Lance Henriksen is definitely creepy cool. I love the part when he talks about fighting for the South.

This mouse seems to like lemons and pesto! What gives, gourmet mouse? Maybe if we leave a trail of bagel lox it will go away.
