I have a Toad the Wet Sprocket song in my head, and probably not the one you think. Exiled to the Texas bay to train in this state's maps and websites. It's not really all that hard except for a lack of resources. At least I'm off the production clock.

Samantha, I hope you're alright. I wish I was not so far away. I need to mail your box.

All my love,
Samantha

I think we should have our own Academy, devoted to the study of books we like and foods. I'm going to con someone into giving me a Fullbright so we can all run off to the Czech Republic and pick blueberries.
much love,
Amanda

I'm pretty confident I can get one two. With two Fullbrights, we'll be good for a long time.

Aha! What a plan. I'll start scouting real easte. Alan can be our chef.

I have great plans to write a thesis on food.

I might eat your thesis before it's defended! I just made a very unsatisfactory dinner!

Oh no! I should send you some green sauce. Do you like tomatillos?

Being the silly northern girl I am, I don't have a great concept of some of the foods you talk about. My girlfriend is from Texas though, and sometimes she talks about these great south west sounding foods. Someday I'll know about them.

Then I really must send you tomatillo salsa, and instructions for making queso. Tomatillo salsa goes with everything. Now I am thinking you must come to Texas and partake of the great south west foods.

I know I need to come to Texas. Unfortunately, the plane to Texas costs money that I do not have at the moment. I don't think it is a drive I want to make. But, I am reading the Grapes of Wrath (and gearing up for an entry on the American literary canon and my relationship to it) and am sort of inspired to get in an old truck and drive West.

It is probably a most insane drive. Alan's pretty self assured, maybe he can talk someone into loaning us their private jet.

I want to hear about you and American literary canon! This may inspire a post about me and American literature, a most thorny subject.

I feel sort of weird writing about it before finishing GofW, since the novel incited it, but I sort of feel ready to. French exam tomorrow morning so maybe I'll need the break in the afternoon. Maybe I'll even finish the novel tonight. We'll see. It's coming soon, though. Disclosed first here! My relationship with American literature is also thorny. I would be interested in hearing about yours; you should write on it too!

In other news, I watched Ivan Vasilievich Changes Professions again today and thought Moscow! swoon! That film catches some nice shots of Moscow, complete with Tsar Ivan IV!

Mine is also on the prickly side. But I think I had a revelation about why I dislike some authors and like others, so I should get a good post out it. It's even got the genesis of a paper topic in there somewhere.

Moscow! I nearly died when the film about naked people I picked up turned out to be set in Moscow.
