my bouquet fits in my crystal pitcher it seems

Well, I'm married now.

The sheer amount of exhaustion right now is staggering. Even though I slept a good seven hours in a wonderous bed with my husband with the wind rattling the tin roof. I only ever managed two bites of quiche and a slice of cake yesterday. Fortunately we had about four times as much cake as we needed, and so we brought a huge chunk home.

Anyhow. The weather yesterday was the perfect sort of December day I like to wax poetic about. Blue sky all the way, bright and clear, amazing. We arrived at the House on the Hill and Joan's bridge club was already setting up food and tables and everything. It was fantastic, and my mother in law is one of the coolest people ever. She handled everything for me. A damn shame I didn't get to eat any of the food until this morning when I devoured the remaining mini quiches.

Alan's best friend Blaine brought a stereo setup that filled the hilltop with our music. Alan's groomsmen were all incredibly sweet to me. The guys got out all the chairs, so I just wandered around and smoked until Krista arrived. Melynda's sister handled much makeup and hair, and I got Rach to coverup my dark circles. (Of course wearing makeup has made my skin break out badly, but I must say Krista's grey eyeliner was nifty.) I actually got dressed in about fifteen minutes, while it took half an hour to do Melynda's hair. At one point I ran around in my good shoes, trying to get a lighter and being stopped every three feet by someone. It was mad. But Hana and her whole family came, and I was so glad. My family had to call for directions. Hah!

We never actually rehearsed anything, but it came off well.

It was exactly as we wanted, all of it. I was more calm than I've ever been for anything, and I didn't cry until well after midnight when we were alone.

But oh the music was perfect, and then James gave a brief speech. We hadn't any idea what he was going to say, but it was utterly brilliant and moving. It was perfect for us and the night, and it was the one thing during the ceremony that made my eyes water. I've never been so touched to be called an oddball in my life. Sometime later I'll type the entire thing up. But we read our vows, and our voices didn't break, and I was even loud enough to be heard.

It was stunning.

At times I was almost blinded by the papparazzi glare, as there were a dozen cameras going at any time, and two video cameras. Law of averages says that we'll have some good pictures in there somewhere. As soon as Tricia makes it home, she'll burn us a cd of her pictures and I'll start putting them up on the web. I threatened Alan with the cake knife and that one should be good. I also managed to throw my flowers at my sister, much to my mother's horror. My mother, who drank a good portion of Brett's flask and looked absolutely stunning. You wouldn't believe she was in her 40s to see her in that red dress.

Alan's extended family is amazing and kind, and I feel so blessed to have them. So many times they welcomed me, so many hugs, so many kind cards and words.

Everyone thought James really was a reverend. It was great. My friends all looked fantastic. Kevin appeared out of nowhere! I shrieked when I saw him, in a most undignified manner I'm certain. So many people came to see us, and it was good.

My car was packed with gifts this morning. Coolest wedding gift of all- the XBox from Blaine & Angel. Geeky friends rock. But we have so much cooking equipment, and appliances now. And towels! Tons of towels! Tyler wins best friend award for giving us a huge coffee table book of photographs from the Soviet Union. I've been flipping through that while Alan hooks up the XBox.

It was strange last night in our beautiful cottage. Alan and I have lived together for months now, but everything felt different. I can honestly say I've never been this happy or this wondering at the world. He was so damned gorgeous in his tuxedo. Just fantastic, and the ring on his hand is the most beautiful thing in the entire world. That was the thing that eventually made me cry. My aunt has a wedding picture of her hand with Barney's to show their rings, so she took one for us.

I am so damned tired and so happy I keep having to remind myself to breathe.
