the color of the sky

It's one of those beautiful days where the air is cold and the light is warm on your skin. One of those days where I wouldn't mind just driving on and on. I nearly drove to San Marcos just for the hell of it.
I took my mother some tulips for Valentines. She loves carnations, but I always get her those and I remember growing tulips in front of the house in Lubbock. The ones I found were an amzing color, like a watercolor stain or a Tiffany glass window. Imagine white tulips, and give them subtle, translucent washes of purple and yellow. They looked like the first colors of a pale dawn. I have never seen more lovely flowers.
I did get to see some of the snow. One full sized snowman and several little ones adorned various yards as I drove through my mother's neighborhood. They had grass stuck in the snow, but they were real snowmen. I've never seen such a thing in Austin.
My mother had to run into work this morning because someone didn't show up. So I arranged her flowers. She left me a bag of candies, a big candle that smells like sugar, and a little stuffed cow. I gave some of the candy away to a homeless man on the corner of McNeil and 183. I didn't have any cash, but he smiled and hopefully the chocolate brightened his day.
Home now, to watch the Redwings play against Colorado. Hockey on Valentines Day, how fabulous.
Tsar Slate is perched on the back of the couch looking out the window. I pulled up the blinds to let in the light, and he can watch the world pass us by out there.
