Work is decidely dreary, even with having stuff to do. I've pulled more certs tongiht than I have in weeks, and it almost feels like last summer when I was routinely doing 50 a night. Still, I'm restless.

Canned salmon is so foul the cat won't go near it. I knew I shouldn't have trusted the recipe. It's one thing to go fishing, catch fish and clean them yourself. It all seems very natural that way. But to open a can and find a spinal cord in a mass of pink meat is rather disturbing. Never, ever, ever again will I be so foolish. From now on the only canned fish products in my home will be anchovies and tuna fish. Anchovies for my pizza and salads, tuna fish for our spoiled Tsar Slate.

Ugh. I mean, hello they don't leave bones in the tuna. Why do they leave them in? It's just weird. I don't even know why I'm so grossed out by it, because I've gutted a few fish in my time. I suppose it's just because I don't expect to open a can and find bones.

Why do I have such bad luck when I try to do anything other than bake? I'm lucky I can boil pasta and heat up microwave foods, or I might starve without Alan.

I drove to work in the sun, and watched the cloud bank slowly cover us. It rained for a bit earlier, cool spring like rain. Today was my father's 52nd birthday.

Had a similar experience some years back with canned salmon as well. Turned me off for good. And weeks later, something kicked in and said -- "Hey! Remember that canned salmon from the other night? Wellsir, look at that sardine yer eating!"
If it makes you feel any better, I burn everything I attempt baking. Or I put it on the rack too soon. Or too late. Baking is the subtlest of culinary arts, methinks, and probably the most difficult to do.

I've been eating canned tuna all my life. A few years back I discovered the joy of anchovy filets packed in olive oil, and how especially delicious they were in salads and pizzas. I'm afraid of other canned meat products. My husband has an unfortunate liking for Spam.

Baking can be super tricky. It took me awhile to learn when the smells changed, how to judge when a cake was just browned enough and all that jazz. I think I like it's rigid formulas, and random points of customization.

Soren and I tried canned salmon once, and got squicked for the same reason. I actually took almost all the damned bones out, but finding the one or two I missed in my mouthfuls has put me off the canned stuff for good.

Bleagh.

I picked at with a knife, but what ultimately made me scream was the fact that it smelled like cat food. Then, the cat wouldn't eat a tiny bit.

I think they leave 'em in so you can tell it's not just tuna in a fancier can.

I seem to recall my parent's making salmon patties from canned salmon, but this stuff was more the consistency of pink tuna.

Hmm. I have a can of tuna hiding in the back of the pantry. I ought to bust it out and treat the cats, espcially NewCat, who is still too skinny. You can feel the ridges of his spine as you pet him. I find this troublesome

sorry if this posts twice. lj is not being cooperative for me tonight

LJ has been very uncooperative today. Hmm.

Treat the cats! I'm sure Alan would say it's a good idea.
