I am waiting for the rain. The heavy storms and potential tornados should be north of us. I am somewhat surprised I did not find myself in a hail storm or watching green black clouds. They usually come right around my birthday. I will never forget a time when I was maybe nine or ten, living in our first home in Austin on Barrington. I stood out in the backyard and looked directly up into a swirling green cloud. A baby tornado, not quite ready to descend. I must have watched it for a good five or ten minutes before my mother made me go inside.

We went to the Hut after work, which isn't such a bad place without the karoke. Plus, the drinks were cheaper than usual. Due to my lack of nourishment, they made me a little fuzzy round the edges. So we over compensated by eating enormous hamburgers, and mine was slathered in delicious honey mustard. Two hours later and I'm still full.

I miss intense storms like that; I grew up in Minnesota and we had them all the time. That doesn't happen in Massachusetts, although I suppose we have hurricanes. Never been in one yet.

We have like 87 million mutual friends, and I see you comment all over -- surely it must be time to add you to my list. Plus, [livejournal.com profile] meta and I are planning to move to Austin, so at some point we may be more than just virtual neighbors.

Well, moving to Austin will surely give you the chance for all kinds of loud storms. Things aren't normal if the weather isn't a bit weird.

When do you think you will be coming down to Texas? It's a nice place here in the Hill Country. Feel free to hit me up for information on neighborhoods or food or anything. I've lived here an awfully long time.

I don't imagine we'll be there much before the end of the year. [livejournal.com profile] meta has a flat in the UK that he's got for sale; once that sells, we'll need to find some property down there to build on -- we've found a couple places that do prefabricated homes that are actually modern and cool-looking as opposed to the cookie-cutter prefabs you get in bug developments etc. So once we've actually got some land, building shouldn't take much more than six months or so.

We were down there in April -- we went to [livejournal.com profile] warhol's wedding and spent the week beforehand looking around Austin to see what we could see. Of course, I'm all crazy about Travis Heights/Bouldin Creek, but who knows what we'll be able to find there. We stayed with a friend of [livejournal.com profile] meta's up in Rosedale, and that was nice too.

I meant to comment on this before, but dude -- you've got Jan Švankmajer in your interest list. Sweet! Is it safe to assume that you've seen the Quay Brothers' homage?
