once more, same as before

We did a lot of aimless shopping today, but no buying aside from several frosty beverages. We are considering buying a giant television, just for the hell of it. Who knows.

The second viewing of Prisoner of Azkaban was interesting. I was better able to pinpoint the scenes left out of the film and ponder the reasoning. I really think they need a director's cut.

Perhaps the most interesting thing of all is the clear sign of a more artistic and gifted hand in the camera work. So many scenes begin or end in reflective surfaces, and I find it entirely deliberate given the nature of the story. It's very beautiful, and makes the transitions work.

I have to say, David Thewlis is my new crush object. He's so charming and I want to feed him soup.

Is anyone else seeing those scary as hell Fanta commercials? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

On a less happy note, the crowd was awful. Bratty children who would not shut up, kids who threw popcorn at the back of my head, and some raging bitch whose phone rang during the last twenty minutes of the film who answered her phone and started talking on it. Crap like that makes me want to scream at people, and I very nearly did at the cell phone moron.

What IS it with people at movies these days?

I swear, if I don't see Azkaban in the next 48 hours, I may go into Cheyne-Stokes resperation; every entry I read on it seems to be saying, "Jeez, these movies are so much better when you hire a freakin' director..."

As to those Fanta ads: Austin Powers fembots. That's all I'm sayin'.

Cuaron is fantastic. I love his vision. Go to the movies!

They are very Austin Powersy, and they drive me insane.

The camera work was definately spectacular...I loved all of the camera-moving-through-glass shots and how prevalent time was as a visual theme. It was quite lovely.

I'm totally with you on the fanta commercial. It frightens me.

We have the Fanta comercials here too. They are devil.

FANTA IS EVIL!!!!!

Make those commercials STOP!

Much with the David love though.

And with the hatred of people that talk in the theater, and answer phones, and wander around, and argue with their children who should BE IN BED BECAUSE ITS LATE and. Yes. They are going to the special hell.

I have not seen these Fanta commercials you speak of. But both the Orbit gum and Re/Max commercials disturb me very more these days.

cell phones in theatres *cringe*

i resisted the lure of the cell phone for a very long time, and only have one through marriage. i don't even like to answer my phone in line at a store, never mind somewhere where it would interupt a great movie. BAH!

there should be a new brand of etiquette courses that teach people how to maintain their privacy in a world of impending technology. when i was in 8th grade a droll middle aged chap taugt me and a group of co-ed peers that we shouldn't talk more than 15 minutes on the phone with people of the opposite sex. he also taught us to foxtrot. now 8th graders need something completely different, as do middle aged people.

the other day at barnes and noble dan rang my cell phone. i got off the phone and the man in the arm chair across the way said "where is target? up on north atherton? you might want to stop at the college buffet- their chinese food is 4.99 a pound." at first i was annoyed because he obviously listened to my whole, albeit brief, conversation. then i thought, "yes, you know what, i was having a private conversation while he was in a public place trying to read some science fiction, he has every right to state his opinion...at least he isn't pissed at me!"

i'll never get used to cell phones :)

We saw Fanta too

My hubby pointed out that it was very Japanese.

I just thought it was bizarre.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2004-06-06 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
These are even scarier, if you can imagine.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2004-06-06 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we need the great mavens of etiquette to set out rules for everyone. So at least I will feel righteous about laying the smack down on people for it. ;)

See, I find it very European and weird, while my husband finds it very South American. Truly, the Fanta thing is a scary global event.
