Those scary evil people who caused so much hell in the LOTR fandom are back, and now they are moving into HP territory. If you live in LA/Hollywood and you see these people, beware. They are psycho psycho psycho in the worst way.

Exhibit A: General information

Exhibit B: Potential wank explosion on JournalFen

Exhibit C: Words straight from Turimel, who has chronicled the entire frightening saga

I normally don't post stuff about these fandoms in my journal, but this situation is more potentially dangerous than I'm comfortable with passing over. Euwwww.

That's all just so surreal...

I can't quite figure out how they managed to scam Turimel out of so much money, though... what went on there?

Friendship, trust, need. It's sometimes really hard to tell a good friend, who claims to be doing this for good causes, "No, I don't trust you, and won't put any money behind you."

Also, a lot of the projects sounded plausible to me, and I've got twenty years of con-running and event planning in my history. Including a history of working with/for a guy in the vampyre scene who is a major con artist, when I should have known better -- which is another possibility: Turimel might have gotten into the projects because they sounded good, useful, plausible, and then didn't want to leave other good people in the lurch as the projects went down.

Ah, see, at the time that I commented, I hadn't found the part about the con. Friends rarely ask for that kind of money out of the blue, but if there were a con going on, I can totally understand that.

That's seriously scary.

They were involved with this supposed charity and the organization of a convention, and that's where all the money nonsense happened. Instead of sending money to the charity, it all apparently went into their pockets.

How amazingly wanky! This has "stay tuned" written all over it.

Things have been boring lately... it'll be nice to have some truly batshit people to marvel over in the near future.

It's even better than a soap opera. How much do I want to kick that moron's ass.

*follows threads...reads a lot*

*blink*

Whoa. That's, um.... whoa.

One hopes that the guilty party gets busted with all due haste. :)

It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen in a fandom, by a long shot.

Indeed! I've witnessed some severe drama in Star Trek fandom (now all, of course, long fogotten) but that whole mess easily takes the cake...

I'll watch - slightly aghast - for developments. :)
