threeplusfireThree checks later and I have a slip of paper that promises my new passport will appear in the mail by May 7th. I had to fill out the forms and have them sent to my mother's house because I never changed my license info or anything.
So that is that. Professor P. was hit by an enormous Tahoe over the weekend, and it destroyed her car. Thank God she is alright. She told us stories of Czechs who married only to get American passports, and of complicated tragic love stories and broken lives. About how Levis were the ultimate symbol of teenage freedom, and how someone sent her a pair secretly. They were too big, and a friend's mother altered them to fit. How she wore them constantly til they fell apart. We talked about the difficulties of Czech translation this afternoon, and ate blinis with blackberry jam.
I'm exhausted, and there is still so much to pack. Sigh.
