(no subject)

Three checks later and I have a slip of paper that promises my new passport will appear in the mail by May 7th. I had to fill out the forms and have them sent to my mother's house because I never changed my license info or anything.

So that is that. Professor P. was hit by an enormous Tahoe over the weekend, and it destroyed her car. Thank God she is alright. She told us stories of Czechs who married only to get American passports, and of complicated tragic love stories and broken lives. About how Levis were the ultimate symbol of teenage freedom, and how someone sent her a pair secretly. They were too big, and a friend's mother altered them to fit. How she wore them constantly til they fell apart. We talked about the difficulties of Czech translation this afternoon, and ate blinis with blackberry jam.

I'm exhausted, and there is still so much to pack. Sigh.

Isn't getting a passport such a pain... I had to sit in the office for 4 hours when I got mine.

I completely forgot it was Tax Day and that the post office would be full of frantic people at 9am. *sigh* I didn't have to wait too long, but the passport fellow was kind of rude and creepy with me. Blah. I can think of better ways to spend an hour of my morning.

you are *so* good for not losing your passport a week before you're supposed to leave and having to go to houston to walk it through... twice.

I was feeling guilty for not noticing months ago that my passport would expire... yikes. That sounds UnFun. I worry that it won't come and I'll have to call in a frantic panic in the week before I leave.

Damn identification cards.
