My office collected 2 & 1/2 tons of food for the Capital Area Food Bank over the course of two weeks. 4,500 pounds of food to be donated to pantries, soup kitchens and shelters around town. One woman brought in a little over 200 lbs of pickled jalapenos, both whole and sliced. Some people were baffled, but it makes perfect sense to me. When we contribute to food drives, we don't often think about flavors, spices, the little extras that make a dish so much more enjoyable. We probably also don't think about more ethnic meals. I imagine that families visiting the food pantry would be glad to get some jalapenos, or that a soup kitchen could use them to liven up plain things like chicken soup, casseroles, etc. It was a brilliant idea.
The Village Idiot has taken to making jokes about getting high. Today he told me how he used to take meth and stay up for days at a time. My only response was a terse and somewhat appalled, "Dude, that stuff eats holes in your brain."
And this guy got the window seat this afternoon when they moved someone out of our bay. Ugh. I'm trying not to be annoyed about that, and I'm mostly over it.
