octe nas

I drank half a bottle of port last night to fall asleep, and watched part of LA Confidential this morning to wake up. Sweet Eugene's makes a coffee called Al Pacino that comes in a big mug, with just a hint of almond to it. I would drink it all the time, if I lived here.

While Alan fixes his tie, I string black and copper beads on a wire. We're leaving for the funeral soon. I don't know why I record this blow by blow, but I haven't anything else to do.

Last night I ate too much marshmallow salad, which they call watergate salad here. It's mostly coolwhip and pistachio and marshmallows, and vaguely sea foam green. For some reason it's good, and I always eat it at funerals.

That "salad" sounds interesting!! My mother used to make some kind of strange coolwhip salad with marshmellows (and I think pineapple), too, forget the name of it. it also reminds me of Waldorf "salad" (NONE of these things are remotely salad-like of course) which is apples, walnuts, raisins and MAYO!! Sounds so gross, but it was quite good.

I want to try and make a vegan version of the watergate salad!!! Does it call for real pistachios?

Every little town here probably has a different name for that salad. ;)

I have eaten it with pistachios, or with pecan pieces. Some people make it with that pistachio pudding, but you could use green food coloring if you really wanted to make it that way. Surely there's a soy pistachio pudding? I think it's mostly cool whip and marshmallows and nuts.

Wait -- Sweet Eugene's? The coffee shop in College Station?

The very one. I love that place so damn much.
