Dallas elects Lupe Valdez as sheriff - an openly gay Hispanic woman. It's a ray of sunshine in a dark world.

The cover of the Chronicle this week - scary and strange pop culture reference anyone? My jaw dropped when I saw this today. In case you have trouble reading the text on the front: "After the horn of a unicorn is broken, darkness and winter descend upon the world." Legendary, isn't it?

My therapist has me drawing out major events of my life on posterboard with colored pencils. It's a little weird, but I'm humoring her.

I had no idea John Edwards was 51! He looks like he's in his thirties.

I worry that Arafat is dying, and that his death will further contribute to chaos and misery in the Middle East. So much of the world worries me.

You know, I was just about to post that Lupe Valdez thing as a comment to your last entry. Glad you saw it.

I'm willing to bet the other woman sheriff in Texas is real glad of some company. :D Yay Valdez!

Interesting therapist. My therapist and I just talk about existentialism and politics and occasionally dreams. Aside for posterboard assignments, how're you liking therapy?

The Chonicle cover: very creepy!

I'm not sure what to say about therapy. I don't think it's changing anything. It give me talking points and things to think about but I don't think it's making a bit of difference in my daily life.

So Tom Cruise will replace the horn and all will be well? This would sound totally silly if we didn't have Arnold as Governor of CA.

Exactly. So very disturbing.

Heh... When Edwards ran for senate in '98, there was an initial flurry of disbelief that he was 44/45 at the time. There were jokes, rumors, front pages in the alt-weeklies bearing headlines like "Johnny Boy: the grown-uppest 12-year-old trial lawyer ever (and his wife ain't bad, either)," and his opponent Lauch Faircloth making a huge deal out of JE's youth and inexperience (Faircloth was near 70 at the time).

Though I like political humor… and I preferred Kerry, I just do not see him as a unicorn…

I don't think it's so much Kerry himself as the unicorn but the idealism, and the hope that we would not vote our fears but be better people. Kerry's just a face to attach those idealistic thoughts to in this race.

I do find it funny with the way that they presented Bush in that the character is Greco-Roman alluding to trickster, fertility, drinking, and sex if my memory serves me right. Sadly I can not remember the name of the mythological creature… though this was in on of my post earlier I think that in the light of what the character eludes to in mythology I have to repeat this quote…

“The Republican National Committee has just announced that it has decided it is time to replace the elephant as the party symbol.

As its new party emblem, the Committee has chosen the condom. They explain that the condom more clearly reflects the party's stance today because a condom accepts inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you are actually being screwed.”

He does look like a satyr. You've seen the movie Legend? That's what they are referencing with that cover art.
