Greetings,
It was with extreme dismay that I was informed of the upcoming bill HJR6 in our legislature. I can not believe our elected leaders would press forward with a blatant attempt at bigotry. Please, I urge you to oppose this bill in our next legislative session. It is nothing less than an attempt to legalize discrimination against a group of citizens in our state.
I would remind you of the words written by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
It seems clear to me that Bill HJR6 is in direct opposition to these memorable words and decades of precedent set by civil rights movements. We are all created equal, and we all deserve the chance to pursue our happiness in America. My friends, my family, and my neighbors should not be denied the same opportunities that I have.
