threeplusfire: (fuck up)

sometimes I get so angry that I cry

My mother has a new neighbor, with a loud and vicious dog. On friday night, the dog escaped from its yard. My mother caught it in her front yard.

The dog was killing my oldest cat, Hazel. It wasn't just a situation where the dog was chasing the cat and caught up to it. It was savaging her, and trying to drag her off like a piece of prey. There was blood dripping down everywhere, and my cat was crying. She was crying.

My mother beat the dog down with a flashlight to get it to let go of Hazel. She hit it over and over in the face and on the head. Then it came back to try and get the cat again. My mother caught it on a slip leash and jammed it into a crate.

One would think, that if one saw their dog in a crate on a neighbor's porch, that one might ask the nieghbor what was going on. No. This son of a bitch tried to steal his dog back while my mother phoned the sheriff's department.

No one will do anything about it. Not the sheriff, nor animal control. Because she lives just outside the city and so close to a county line, no one wants jurisdiction. So they sent the dog home to that ratfucking neighbor. "Oh gee, sorry." That was all he said.

Hazel died. She was hurt so badly that nothing on earth could save her. Hazel was about fifteen years old, and a small calico. She never liked to be inside, and would only come in if the weather was very bad. We made a little house for her on the porch, and in the winter we plugged a heating pad in to keep her warm. She had green eyes, and a serious face.

She was so small, with little white paws. Hazel was the last of my childhood pets. She didn't deserve to die this way. Not torn up and savaged, not in agony and blood. What did she ever do to deserve such a cruelty?

My mother is a better person than I am. She told me that she had a moment, holding the slip leash tight on the dog's throat. She thought, "I could just keep pulling and the dog would die." But she couldn't bring herself to do it. I don't know if I could have stopped myself.

I'm really sorry, I don't know if I would have been able to stop either.

Oh, I'm so sorry. : (

Too bad she couldn't put a slip leash around the neighbor's neck.

Oh God, that's so awful. I'm so sorry. I'm sure I would have killed, or at least maimed that dog...

If the criminal system doesn't do anything about it and your mom really wants to do something, this is sort of what lawsuits are for.

O_O

Oh my God. I'm just ... Hazel was the sweetest kitty ever, even though she only let me admire her from afar. I am so sorry, and if your mom remembers me, tell her I'll be sending her healing vibes.

Your neighbors CANNOT get away with this. And now the fucking dog thinks it's ok to maim any animals it comes across.

I'll email you my number in case you need anything, even to just talk.

Thank you. My mom does remember you, and she appreciates it.

God, I'm so sorry. I can't believe any fuckwit of a human being would leave a vicious dog in that position.

I'm so sorry to hear this!

How terrible for you and your mom, she's a tried and true defender.

Poor Hazel, she didn't deserve that. I am so saddened by your loss.

That is so awful. People like your mother's neighbor don't deserve to have pets. How could he not understand that that is just as bad as killing any other member of your family?

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhhh, Jesus. I'm so sorry.

Oh, goodness . . .I'm so sorry.

oh jeez...i'm so sorry for you and your mom.

Oh my god. Your poor kitty.

Your mom has way more restraint than me. I'd have strangled the beast.

oof. that's just about the worst thing ever :( how disheartening that no one would do anything-- that's a dangerous animal! yucky :( and pets don't just become nasty like that....shame on your mom's neighbor. yikes!

[identity profile] theotoky.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
My deepest, deepest sympathies. I am so terribly sorry and heartbroken for all of you. So sorry.

I am sorry about your cat Hazel.

Though I could ramble off about things for a while I also read your update post, it is good that the dog was taken away.

Though I am no fan of killing dogs, if it had been killing one of my pets I can guarantee you I would have not been as lenient.

Hope you and your mom are ok…

Bast take and keep her.

Oh honey, honey, honey. I am SO, SO sorry. It angers me so much when people do not have the decency to train their pets or at least keep them confined. It's a shame that no action can be taken against the neighbor. The way I see it, if the dog is running around on the loose it's not only a threat to other animals, and people (god forbid it had attacked your mom), but it's also a danger to itself and moving vehicles.
It's such a shame.
My thoughts are with you, your mom, and Hazel. It hurts so much when a beloved pet dies. I'm sure Hazel is in a better place, curled up, waiting for you (and probably getting scratched in just the right place by an ethereal being).
Has your mom tried calling the SPCA for help? They might be able to give her info at least.

We got our friendly animal control officer to impound the dogs.

[identity profile] schmidtybooger.livejournal.com 2005-02-24 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Good stuff. Now if you could only impound the neighbor.

[identity profile] baldanders.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
I am so sorry, and outraged, to read this.

[identity profile] ctiee.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
That's awful. I'm so sorry.

Oh my god, I am so sorry. Fucking owners like that don't deserve to have pets.
