I haven't had a soda in almost a week now. Yay me. It has not been so hard to give up. I drink a little more coffee in the morning, but that is alright. I have good coffee and I've taken to drinking it black. During the day I drink a large bottle of water, probably about 34 ounces. While on one hand, purchasing bottled water is somewhat silly because I have running water here and at work. I'm paying for the convenience of the bottles. If it is already bottled, and ready to go, I'm much more likely to remember it. I figure the couple dollars a week I spent is thoroughly rationalized.

It's harder to give up the snacking. No more chips. I have Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches and lots of berries at home. We'll see I suppose. I can only hope that my results are half so good as Melynda's. It seems like it will take forever to lose this weight. I just want my waistline back and down two sizes in jeans. It's a realistic goal.

It is not nearly so hot today. Maybe there will be more rain. One can hope. I yearn for it.

I did Weight Watchers Online and lost about 30 pounds. Rather than being just another diet, it was a whole new way of thinking about food/eating/health that has stuck with me ever since and has made it much easier to keep the weight OFF.

I think that giving up soda is definitely one of the best ways to loose weight. (At the moment I'm going the exact opposite way; I drink about 2 litres of coke a day and eat much more sweeets than is in any way excusable. But next week I'll do what you're doing now. Um, I hope.)

About the snacks. One of my definite lowfat snacks are frozen seedless grapes. Guh. If you happen to like both grapes and sorbet, you should definitely freeze 7 bowls of grapes, because they'll get you through the week without the constant craving.

You can always get a nalgy (nalgene) bottle at a camping store and fill it with ice water--you would totally fit in doing that in Austin.

Just started reading another Hrabal book. Hope you aren't neglecting your Czech--you never know when it might prove handy!
