wearable sculpture
Jul. 12th, 2005 08:38 pmI decided, recently, that I needed something of my own to hang on to in these days. I needed something, for so many reasons.
I've never owned much jewelry and the pieces I have are all very specific things tied into places and other people. I wanted something different this time, something that was all mine. I wrote to the wonderful Kythryne at Wearable Sculpture. For some months now I had admired her pieces on the BPAL forums and sighed enviously over custom orders archived on her website. She posted an incredible, elaborate piece last month and when I saw it I just knew the time had come.
So I wrote, and rambled. She considered, and worked. She sent me photos, and I wrote back and now it is finished. I have this incredible, beautiful piece of jewelry that is for me. (And my wizard, because I wrote about Meier a lot too.)

See how graceful those swoops of wire are? They boggle my mind. I can hardly do this piece justice with description, so it is a good thing she sent me pictures to share. I told her things I liked, and she ran with the ideas. I suggested green stones and she kindly included several in there for me. There are handmade glass beads in there, done just for this necklace.

One of my most favorite things is the wave in the wire on the right side there. That graceful arc, and then the strand with the silver moonstone beads running through it. And that little swirl above the hematite stone. So beautiful. It's so elegant and gorgeous. I am utterly thrilled with it. I can't wait to be wearing it.
