I had numerous people yell at me today, as if I am personally responsible for all the deaths of children in this state. Never mind the fact that none of these people had anything to report that was even remotely considered abuse or neglect. When the neighbor complained about the teens staying home without adults in the evening (gasp!) she mentioned that both parents work low wage jobs. She tisked and said, "Well I don't know why they would have to work so many hours." I almost snapped, "Yes it must be nice to have a husband who makes enough money that you can stay home and spy on the neighbors when you aren't watching your brats." But I restrained myself. That one actually called me a bitch before she hung up.

I know it's stupid. I know I should just let it go. I know it doesn't matter what these people scream at me. But I confess that when people yell at me it makes my throat close and it is an incredible struggle not to cry when someone questions my ability do my job. Ugh.

On that cheery note, I'm going to go have a drink with Tyler. Thank god for your friends who call you up in your hour of need.

If she's so damn concerned, why not offer to check in on the wayward youth rather than reporting the parents?
