Melynda is stuck on traffic on the highway in Houston. I hope that tank of gas lasts.

You would think from the crack ass insanity out there that the bloody storm is going to hopscotch right onto Austin. Everyone's out there buying up all the peanut butter and causing lines for gas in a panic. I don't think anyone realizes that if they didn't engage in this panicky sort of buying, we wouldn't see as much price gouging and empty shelves.

Yes, bad storm. Evacuate the coast. All that stuff is good. But come on people. If you're hundreds of miles away, I somehow doubt the ocean will get us. Maybe we'll get lucky and have some nice thunderstorms, knock out the power for twelve hours, get to eat peanut butter sandwiches.

I could just really do without the hysteria and fear mongering.

Now on the other hand, work is swamped trying to evacuate foster kids and APS clients. That we need to worry about.

I've noticed that I'm one of the few people not panicking... I admit that Mel got me a little worried... but not for my own safety... but for the fact that I would feel really bad if I got hurt... and she was insisting that I come w/ her... the whole guilt thing...

anyways... I'm almost done making my Marga-RITA Mix for my iPod... so I'll have something to listen to in the dark... and I'm about to go to Walmart to buy a nice card table and some boardgames... all the Walmarts in Houston are closing at 5pm today...

I heard somewhere that the hurricane will still be at a category 1 by the time it gets up this far. It's definitely not worth the panic or anything, but I think if it does come here it will be something different than we've ever seen.

But not the end of the world. A supervisor went to Walmart to buy cupcakes and she said people were fighting over water!

Another LJ friend called it disasterbating. I think that's a very appropriate term.
