christmas eve

It was very quiest all day long until about 7pm. Then the phones starting ringing off the hook with law enforcement calls. I've had three law enforcement requests for immediate assistance in the past 45 minutes. Egads.

What really made today hard was the two calls I had from teenagers. In both situations, the teens were calling about a friend who has just made an outcry of sexual abuse by a family member. The second was so awful in so many ways that I actually started to cry on the phone. I feel awful for these families. Christmas is now going to be that time of year when CPS showed up at the house. Ugh.

You have to be a really together, brave twelve year old kid to get this number and call. I tried really hard to be gentle with them and I kept reassuring them that they were doing the right thing. Poor kids.

It's almost time for me to go home. I've been kvetching about wanting to be out of here. But now that the phones are busy I'm almost guilty and feel like I should stay.

It's Christmas people! Stop being jerks out there.

I will be spending the night with my mother. There's tasty Luby's food waiting for me, and there will be a fire in the fireplace. I'm going to wrap some presents and have a glass of wine and it will be alright.
