Driving this afternoon, I was behind a pickup with a large number of bumpersticks with slogans like 'Defeat Jihad.' (Though what that really means I couldn't say.) It reminded me of the hospital and how they had a large number of posters and stickers all over that said 'Freedom isn't free.' Well no kidding. Freedom isn't free, but nor is it bought with the wages of fear. (Can you think of *anyone* who joined the military because they were afraid?) Freedom is paid for with hope and nobility and bravery, which is just about the opposite of our current preseident and his goon squad.
The wind is coming from the north but the sky is sun washed blue like the promise of summer. I meant only to buy a pair of sneakers. I came home with a pair of summer shoes that are covered in cherries. Also, a vanilla lime slush which is possibly the best flavor ever.

Date: 2008-03-07 09:24 pm (UTC)The Korean War Memorial is crazy. The faces of the soldiers are haunting as they sludge through the water. And the hundreds of faces, from soldiers to nurses, on the wall with names are engraved so you see them when the light hits them just right. And then at the end, there's this granite wall with just those words. Of course, I might not have all the details down in my memory just right, but I've visited it a few times over the years. It's to the left of the Lincoln Memorial.
