plastic chairs should not be that much

Why is patio furniture so expensive? Seriously? I am not paying $200 to $400 for a plastic chair. A chair made of recycled plastic should not be $300. Argh. I just want some of those folding lounge chairs of my childhood, made with plastic tubing. I can't seem to find them though.

I was just wondering this exact thing. I want some patio furniture, but even used it's crazy expensive. Plus I'd have to get it home, and that's always fun when you drive a Mini...

We're a two MINI household... I find it's easiest to just rent a truck at Home Depot. It costs about $20 for an hour and a half, which is enough time to pick up what I'm buying, take it home, and bring the truck back. We're right in strip mall suburbia, though... if your area is a bit more rural and the stores further apart, it might not work as well for you.

And yeah, powdered aluminum tubing, plastic straps. I have no clue where that style went, but I'd like it back, too.

Maybe look in the camping and picnicing section? The will likely have folding ones and probbaly much cheaper.

Ekatarina, advice worth what you paid for it

...I saw those at Target a couple weeks ago. I think. Not sure if they were lounge chairs, but they had the plastic-tubing thing going on.

Target had a sale here this weekend with some complete sets for $99. I did pick up some nice, oversized chairs at BB&B that were $40 each. You can usually get a 20% off one item coupon in the circulars or by getting on their mailing list - and can always buy one chair at a time if you have enough coupons.

I'd also suggest keeping an eye on your local craigslist - something might turn up there.

I dunno if they'd work for what you need, but I've been planning forever on buying a couple of the plastic adirondacks that Zinger's on Anderson sells. $20/each. Though I think I can get them for $17-18/each at Home Depot. Just have to decide if I want to "buy local" or not. And work with a truck- or larger-vehicle-owning friend, since they don't fit in my car.

I actually have two of those from Zingers. I suggest buying there because they have lots and lots of colors to choose from. I managed to get two in the front seat of my Saturn, by putting them in upside down.

Yeah, I spent a good 15 minutes trying to fit one in my car - front and back seat, various orientations, etc. Perhaps your tetris-fu is just better than mine. ;)
