I made myself go to the store at 8:30am, which means it is not so crowded and the air isn't boiling yet. I bought stuff to make 7-Up pound cake and a coconut cake, including two coconuts. Of course I was restrained in the store and didn't buy any snacks. Now all I can think about is ice cream. Specifically, cookies and cream ice cream.

(Totoro cupcakes, aww)

Texas Monthly often features some beautiful photography spreads. The September issue has a feature on the state queens, from the Gator Queen to the Citrus Queen to the Poteet Strawberry Queen to the Queen of the tunas (which are a cactus). Texas has a wonderful variety of festivals. We need a Kolache Queen though.

Re-reading The Red Tree, and it remains subtle and scary. Don't let the wacky cover throw you - it is so not representative of the novel.

Last night I watched a superbly creepy documentary on the BBCA about a handful of people and their Real Dolls. The guys who had relationships with their dolls were far less creepy than the one guy who had eight and kept them stuffed in his garage haphazardly.

Dammit, they don't have it yet. What other book of hers do you recommend b/c they have all except that one and I haven't read any others, besides Silk, which I totally loved.

Murder of Angels picks up in territory left after Silk, so that might be a good one to get next. Threshold is probably my favorite of her novels. I am also intensely fond of her recent short story collection, A is For Alien.
