One of my favorite things about driving is having a good set of mix cds to listen to on the way. The only place I really sing is in the car. (Sorry fellow passengers, now and forever.) Next week we're driving to Dragon*con, so I need to get cracking on some music.

Please suggest your favorite driving songs. If you don't drive, please suggest your favorite riding on public transit/plane/long trip music.

I once had great good luck with driving to Ten, by Pearl Jam.

Driving to D*C, you say?

Yeah - the last few times I've flown have annoyed me enough to swear it off except when really necessary.

Anything by Bowling for Soup is fun to listen to. I also like Jonathan Coulton, They Might Be Giants, and Blue Oyster Cult, among others.

You must stop by the Pegasus Publishing (tshirt) booths upstairs and say hi!

You know what I randomly like when driving cross country? The Titan AE soundtrack or old 80's compilation cd's.

OMG THE TITAN AE SOUNDTRACK.

::cough::

Please pardon my capslock, I just have a severe love of that album. Such an excellently crafted "mix tape," and far better than the movie deserved.

OMG isn't it great?

I love listening to stand-up while driving. Eddie Izzard, Henry Rollins, old Jon Stewart, etc.
And episodes/podcasts of Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me.

I wish I could listen to spoken things without falling asleep. That and the road noise of the car makes it hard to listen to on freeway driving.

I always listen to The Joshua Tree on cross-country trips. But there were a couple of songs that I had on frequent play on my trip this summer:

They Don't Know by Tracy Ullmann
Swimming Pool by Freezepop
Capriccio Espagnol by Rimsky-Korsakov
Halo by Beyonce
Take Me With U by Prince
Better Off Alone by Alice Deejay

There were a bunch of others, but that's sort of representative of the chipper-ness of the drive.

Freezepop is one of my most favorite things ever. They make me ridiculously pleased.

"Spinning" by Jack's Mannequin
"Someone Wake Me Up" by the Veronicas
"It's All Your Fault" by Pink
"Closer to Fine" by the Indigo Girls
"This Tornado Loves You" by Neko Case

Lately, I've been all about Sam Cooke. Seriously.

Also, I'm in love with Janelle Monae (which is appropriate since you're coming to Atlanta).

I've also really been feeling Cold War Kids lately. I recommend "We Used to Vacation" for driving.

Also, you can't go wrong with Huey Lewis and the News.

I'm just saying.

Probably not traditional driving tunes, but I like 'Selected Ambient Works Vol 2' by Aphex Twin for driving. Great for relaxing you as you watch the world go by.

Aphex Twin - now there's something I haven't listened to in forever.

Johnny cash is great for long drives and flights, especially on a helicopter. Although 'Money for Nothing' by Dire Straits always sounded strangely appropriate to hear while zipping across the North Sea.

That Dire Straits songs is one of my favorite ones ever. It always seemed to be on the radio when I was a kid. Thank you for reminding me of that!

Classic rock always relaxes me on a drive, takes my mind off the endless rode and into my head a bit more so time passes quickly.

One song no one ever would believe I like is 'Witchta Lineman' by Glen Campbell, if I'm in a wistful mood.

Nine Inch Nails. Various Neosoul artists.

I'm an album bigot, so I'm worthless for recommending singles, but a particular album sprung to mind...

America's Least Wanted by Ugly Kid Joe

One hit wonders, yes, but that album has some great stuff on it. Loud, quirky, and cathartic. Glad to loan you a copy.
