raining outside
Nov. 15th, 2001 11:15 amWaking up to a tornado watch is a strange thing. I think of tornados as afternoon, evening occurences. Not morning ones. Perhaps I've just never encounted one so early in the day.
Almost finished with my essay. Need to print everything out and pop it into the mail. With such a potentially big award, I should be more motivated. Mostly I'm thinking about the quiche in the oven. Haven't tried to make quiche in ages. It smells so delicious already.
Funny to think the Russian President Putin is in Waco. Of all the Texas places to visit... Waco. Hah. Maybe they can go to the Dr Pepper museum.

rain rain rain
Nov. 15th, 2001 10:23 pmRaining madly today. 13 inches in South Austin. The city is flooding in places, and power has been out sporadically across town. Children were held at schools for hours, because it was too risky for buses to cross certain streets. Lake Travis is up 8 feet today. Lake Austin is swamping the hike and bike trails. There were tornados spotted up til this evening. They even shut down 183 North because the rain melted all the dirt piles from the road construction onto the asphalt. People were stuck for up to five hours.
And during all this, people were still showing up to the store. I shake my head.
The power flickered often, and I worried it would just plunge us all into complete darkness. No managers at all in the store today, and of course no one knows where the flashlights are or what to do. Such fun. It was only sprinkling when I left though.
