So the day shift guy didn't get fired, just moved to a seat right beside one of the the big bosses from what I hear and given a stern talking to about the whole thing. I am slightly relieved by this, as I didn't want the guy to get fired even if he was doing something stupid and bad. I have odd issues with reporting people to bosses even when there is something going on that needs to stop. Maybe I just read too much literature from Communist times. But how stupid do you have to be to look at porn in the middle of an office like that?

Work was more productive and entertaining tonight than all week long. Strange how that is. Making some plans for the weekend, and I think I'll just play cards, go out to the Little House, and ignore the fact that my birthday is rapidly approaching. I just don't want to think about it. Well, at least not til I get the box from New York. Food!

Must get up, go to grocery store, run various errands, stop by my mother's house, do stuff. Eat lunch. Do stuff. Go play cards. Wear a hat.

A busy, busy morning. Waking up was painful, due to the brightness of the sun coming in the windows. I knew there was a reason I covered that thing with a blanket last year.

We're baking a quiche florentine right now, and watching Go because Melynda is appalled that I've never seen it. Pulp Fiction on X? Looks interesting so far.

Spent $150 on getting my car all oiled and filtered and such like. The guys at the Jiffy Lube were quite nice, which is a good thing. They were impressed with the excellent condition of my car. Car runs beautifully now.

Visited my mother briefly. She's replacing the back fence, making blankets and doing the usual.

It's a damn lovely day out there. Going to be even better once I eat.

I went to pick up the mail today, and there was a package for me!

Wrapped in brown paper, with lovely old fashioned looking stamps at the top, and I walked back to my apartment pretending to be living in a Kundera novel or something like that. The sun is beautiful out there, and if I close my eyes and pretend I can smell the lindens blooming the way they did that summer in Prague.

I unwrapped it with far more care than I usually take. Inside was a black box, and I grinned in the silence of the house. This was so much like a novel. Beneath the carefully popped bubble wrap, there was a card from Samantha. She's fast become one of my favorite LJ people to read, and one of my good friends. I just bought some things to send her today, and I can't believe I forgot the stamps. Anyhow, it's a great card, with a cigar and a martini on the front. "Cake is for wussies." In light of last weekend, this is even more funny.

Wrapped in purple and silver ribbon is a copy of Eloise in Moscow! I managed to get the ribbon off without untying it or losing the curls. The book is lovely, a 40th anniversary edition with heavy paper and hardbound. I love well done children's books, and I have a few hidden away between the Dostoevsky and the Pelevin. It's been years since I read Eloise, and they weren't something I ever saw until I was in college. (Yes, I grew up reading odd things)

Thank you, thank you Samantha for the beautiful present, and for the moment walking home where I was in a novel.
