birthday post
May. 28th, 2007 06:04 pmThank you for the many good wishes for my 27th birthday. The day on Sunday was a very nice one. My mother gave me a blue shirt with Marshmallow Peeps on it! Mwuhah. She also made my favorite birthday cake, the white layer cake with raspberry filling and chocolate icing. One of the drug company reps who visited her clinic gave her a fancy Russian candy bar, so I got that as well as hilarious cow and cat oriented things.
My grandparents, my aunt Tricia, my cousin Rob, my aunt Cindy, and my cousins Ashley, Eric and Trevor all came to Austin on Sunday for lunch. We ate at Luby's of course. My aunt Tricia was terribly excited to finally get to see and play with the puppies at my mother's house. I was also sort of surprised at how large my cousin's baby was, but then I haven't seen Trevor in ages. My sister's friend Jenny stopped by for cake, and brought me big red flowers too, so I have even more.
In the evening, I watched last week's Sopranos and ate a burrito while doing some laundry. Then Tyler and Sarah came over to have drinks, and there was general merriment. Mike's friend Dario stopped by later on, and then we turned Sarah loose on Guitar Hero. I think we have given her a new hobby. I drank too much champagne and slept like the dead, it was good.
Sarah gave me Revolution at the Gates: Selected Writings of Lenin from 1917. I confess that I've not read any of Lenin's actual writings despite all those Soviet history courses, so I'm looking forward to it. The cover of the book is very strange. It shows a statue of Lenin on a roof, but in the very lower right corner, there's part of an American flag. The photo credit indicated the picture was taken on Houston street in New York City. Now, I am dying to know what building that is, and who put the statue there. I'm already making up stories.
Now I can emulate ANthony Bourdain and be awesome in the kitchen. Les Halles Cookbook was my gift from Tyler. It is a very beautiful cookbook, and I can't wait to make some things out of it. The chocolate hazelnut tart, the clafoutis, and pig's heart. Mmm so much delicious French cooking that I could cry. I need a house with an enormous kitchen, a pantry and some knives!
It was a good day. I just put some more water into my flowers. Now I need my coffee, some more cherries and some bread.
