Despite the best efforts of IH-35, I made it to San Marcos today and spent some quality time with my favorite Texas girl. A delicious lunch in a little cafe, shopping at the Paper Bear, and many good stories. We pondered the mysteries of Fatal Attraction over my baked potato and her chicken. I liked the iced tea.
It is good to see Cate. We discussed the possibilities of mah-johngg, and her upcoming adventures in the desert, and my attempt to channel the spirit of Nabokov into my writing by living on oranges. We bought some candy, and now I'm thinking I really should have bought more. Especially these candy bars, with names like Sonate and Concerto. I found them in the Christmas aisle, and they're delicious. Perhaps I will hhave to go back down next week and steal Cate away from her office. She seems to know all the best places to eat.
Driving home was ridiculous. First, everyone was passing me at 80 miles an hour. Which is unnerving when the road and the sky are the same color, and keep blurring together. Then, at the edge of South Austin, everyone slowed to 20mph. Twenty miles per hour. For no reason at all, that I could tell. As I felt my temper flare, I remembered my new motto. I looked around and imagined transfiguring all the cars into slugs. Large, pink and purple slugs. The thought was so delightful I managed to chuckle most of the way home.

Date: 2001-12-11 02:58 pm (UTC)I was not making fun of your idea. I have previously used humor-imagination to relieve a stressful or frustrating situation and know it works. :)

Date: 2001-12-11 09:02 pm (UTC)Cozy place you got here; I like your style. Dropping a line as promised. Anyhow, today I happened to pick up, completely by chance, the USAA magazine my sister and I get and was astounded to read a jigsaw puzzle suggestion attributed to you. Not a bad idea at all! Jean says I should ask to make sure that you are the same Amanda who submitted it, but I'm wondering just how many other 21-year-olds with your same name live in Austin, hmm? We'll have to try that sometime-- just yesterday I was marveling at my relatively newfound thrift. :)
Well, better be off. The Elephant Man is on the air in a few minutes and I wouldn't want to miss that.
Thanks, bye!

Date: 2001-12-12 09:15 am (UTC)Yep, that would be my jigsaw puzzle suggestion. :) How odd you would run across that. I don't think there are any other Amandas with my last name in Austin. But you never know. There are at least 32 John Smiths the last time I checked the phone book.
What fun! It's ever so kind of you to drop by. HOpe to see you again soon.
