The show takes Twain's comment on the difference between truth and fiction (the latter has to make sense) and turns it on its ear.
Mayhaps there are two different versions of Part II? Mayhaps DD's contract is under negotiation?

Oof. Those season cliffhangers drive me crazy. Thank you JR Ewing for starting that wacky trend.
I think Duchovny's been reworking his contract to allow him more time off for family things. A month! To the Fox vaults to find the secret episodes! ;)

I thought it was: "The difference between truth and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." But I don't remember my Twain too well.
