I am sad that I missed the snow. There's not any here at my apartment. Sigh.

the color of the sky
Feb. 14th, 2004 02:20 pmIt's one of those beautiful days where the air is cold and the light is warm on your skin. One of those days where I wouldn't mind just driving on and on. I nearly drove to San Marcos just for the hell of it.
I took my mother some tulips for Valentines. She loves carnations, but I always get her those and I remember growing tulips in front of the house in Lubbock. The ones I found were an amzing color, like a watercolor stain or a Tiffany glass window. Imagine white tulips, and give them subtle, translucent washes of purple and yellow. They looked like the first colors of a pale dawn. I have never seen more lovely flowers.
I did get to see some of the snow. One full sized snowman and several little ones adorned various yards as I drove through my mother's neighborhood. They had grass stuck in the snow, but they were real snowmen. I've never seen such a thing in Austin.
My mother had to run into work this morning because someone didn't show up. So I arranged her flowers. She left me a bag of candies, a big candle that smells like sugar, and a little stuffed cow. I gave some of the candy away to a homeless man on the corner of McNeil and 183. I didn't have any cash, but he smiled and hopefully the chocolate brightened his day.
Home now, to watch the Redwings play against Colorado. Hockey on Valentines Day, how fabulous.
Tsar Slate is perched on the back of the couch looking out the window. I pulled up the blinds to let in the light, and he can watch the world pass us by out there.

valentines
Feb. 14th, 2004 07:14 pmJust a token of my love for you. Here is to the first of many happy valentines days.
Alan is a terribly romantic person. He had an enormous bunch of roses and a big box of truffles delivered to me. I can't remember the last time I had so many flowers. He takes great delight in needling me, because he's been planning this for a month. Silly man. I love him very much.

Love In San Francisco
Read about the incredible events happening in San Francisco this weekend. Read about how ordinary people have taken a stand for what they believed in, and how even people in government have helped them. See people stepping up and showing that committed relationships come in so many colors and shapes.
I think we should all be happy for them, regardless of how we feel about marriage and government and religion. It's a good thing that so many people love one another, right?

This is the most amusing evil delightful thing on the internet today. I'm having way too much fun playing with it and coming up with absolutely atrocious stories. The following however is sheer brilliance and must be preserved.
A Moon In Time
On a shadowy and black morning, Roland sat below the eaves. It was Valentine's Day and he was all alone. His head ached in sorrow for the secret love that he could never share. How could he expect Anna to love someone with a bloody hand?
Cruelly, he began to recite a poem he had composed. "Ah, my love is like an elegant sharp roof, all on a summer's day. I wish my Anna would bite me, in her own pointy way..."
"Do you?" Anna sat down beside Roland and put her hand on Roland's arm. "I think that could be arranged."
Roland gasped hungrily. "But what about my bloody hand?"
"I like it," Anna said quickly. "I think it's fantastic."
They came together and their kiss was like the shadow of death.
"I love you," Roland said brutally.
"I love you too," Anna replied and bit him.
They bought a panther, moved in together, and lived fiercely ever after.
