yes it is an irrational fear

Hell and damnation.

I've cracked a tooth, somehow. It must have had a cavity lurking under the surface to be so fragile. It's freaking me out, and not just because I have no dental insurance and no money. This makes me feel somehow unclean, awful, and I'm developing morbid fantasies of infection and pain. It does not hurt much, except when I push on it. Which I probably shouldn't be doing. Even though I'm sure it would be excessive, a nightmare, I want to rip it out.

I want to scream.

Don't push on it (you know that, I know), but if you can wait until the morning hours, can you see an after hours clinic? I don't know if it is a big crack in your tooth or the degree of pain...but I would check with a dentist for advice.

I don't have dental insurance either and today I had a cavity filled...but I needed to do it.

Hope you take care...

i wish i could help.

teeth things freak me out lots, too. some of my teeth have been hurting like hell for a few days, too. :( it's hard to get dental insurance, i think.
let me know if you need to know anything about getting enamel repainted on (because you can't afford caps). that's all i know about.

i am so not helpful today.

But then again, not so irrational. I broke a tooth in November. As the break was small, and I am poor, it still sits there, painless, taunting me.

Of course, it does have a sharp edge, and my new thinking thing is to run my tounge over it and scratch the tounge. Odd, but there you go.

Manos De Cristo (http://www.main.org/manos/Dental.htm)
Manos de Cristo operates the only low cost dental clinic in Austin for the working poor and other medically indigent people.
Patients pay $10-$45 depending on the treatment but nobody is turned away for lack of money.

Ugh, teeth are so fraught with guilt, hygeine and desirability issues in our culture.
I feel for you.
